Deviating From Golfing Plan

Having a set plan for your golf trip can be a good thing. It will prevent you from ever being bored or overwhelmed. It can be slightly stressful to have no idea where you are going to go tomorrow, so having a plan helps you to relax by knowing that the rest of your trip has all been thought out beforehand. However, the truly hilarious and heart warming memories seem to always come from deviating from the original plan. Therefore it is in your best interest to always be up for trying whatever might come your way.

If you have planned to visit some of the bigger and more famous resorts, you definitely should not completely blow them off. After all, they did not become the most popular destinations for no reason. Generally lots of thought was put into the layout and architecture of the courses, and they are something you should not miss out on. It can be tempting, though, to stick to nothing but these. This will cause you to miss out on some of the better experiences.

If you are on your way to the resort of your choice and you see a little golf course that you have never heard of before, you should not hesitate to stop in and play a few holes. It will not ruin your whole plan to spend a few hours there, and you can add one more golf course to your list of all the ones that you have played. I have found that sometimes the small town country club courses can be more memorable than the largest resorts, due to interesting layouts or topography. The quick nine could end up being the one thing that makes the largest impression on you from your trip.

Your deviation from the plan does not necessarily have to be in the form of an alternate golf course. When driving through a new area, sometimes you will encounter signs such as “see the world’s largest prairie dog play dead!” or “stop by and see the man with 4 heads!” While usually these small distractions are extremely fake and ridiculously dumb, they can provide a good laugh among the group and a good story for your family once you get back home. Stopping by does not take more than a few minutes, and will be quite enjoyable most of the time even if it isn’t on your itinerary.
