If you have planned to visit some of the bigger and more famous resorts, you definitely should not completely blow them off. After all, they did not become the most popular destinations for no reason. Generally lots of thought was put into the layout and architecture of the courses, and they are something you should not miss out on. It can be tempting, though, to stick to nothing but these. This will cause you to miss out on some of the better experiences.
If you are on your way to the resort of your choice and you see a little golf course that you have never heard of before, you should not hesitate to stop in and play a few holes. I have found that sometimes the small town country club courses can be more memorable than the largest resorts, due to interesting layouts or topography.
