Handling Lost Golf Baggage
If you have just arrived in your dream destination for your ideal golf getaway, nothing can spoil the happy mood more than standing by the baggage claim conveyor belt and waiting for your bag but having nothing familiar show up. Putting anything in the care of the airline is taking on a substantial risk of losing it. This is something that everyone must accept as part of the faster transportation of airlines.
While most of us know that it’s bound to happen sometimes, that does not reduce the frustration when it actually happens. If you have been a victim of baggage loss, you should not simply sit back and wish it had gone differently. Usually you can take action in order to be compensated by the airline for what they lost.
If you have a certain type of homeowner’s insurance, you might find that you have an added benefit known as “off premises theft”. Since golf clubs can be a big investment sometimes, it is good to check for this and even request it when you are discussing your policy with your insurance agent. However, you should always be sure to find out the exact deductible. Some policies might sneak it past you that the deductible costs more than you even paid for your golf clubs!
Most of the time, if you bug the airline enough about their mistake then you will be able to harass them in to paying for at least a small fraction of the cost of replacing your clubs. After all, it is the airline’s fault that you no longer have the possessions that were so dear to you. If you threaten a law suit with the airline, they will be very likely to compensate you for the lost baggage. Most airlines would rather spend several hundred dollars to pay you back than take it to court!
While occasionally you will be able to be reimbursed for your lost clubs, you can never count on airlines or insurance to take care of the clubs unless you have a contract already specified. Therefore it is a good idea to add a special coverage onto your insurance plan, especially if you use particularly expensive clubs. Rather than risk losing them and never seeing compensation, it is better to play it safe. Now when you take your golfing trips, you have absolutely nothing to worry about except getting a bad score!
