Planning For A Great Golf Vacation

In my experience, poor planning can be the one thing that turns your ideal weekend golf getaway into a weekend of hell in its most pure and vile form. If you do not have every step in your trip planned out, you might end up having to think on your feet. Unfortunately, as I proved with a horrible experience a few years ago, some of us are better at that than others.

I had been planning for several months to have my golf getaway. Mind you, I did not actually plan anything specific. I didn’t know where I would be going, but I knew I wouldn’t be staying at home. My job was getting tiresome and I felt my family could use a break from me. So I planned out the very weekend I would be gone, in order to give myself and everyone around me some peace and quiet.

As the designated date drew closer, I started to get fairly nervous. I hadn’t yet made any specific plans, after all. So I called up a hotel on a small island near the coast. It is known for having one of the best resorts and golf courses in the country, so naturally I thought it was my best choice. I made the hotel reservations and figured that was all I would need to do.

When I arrived at the hotel, I was certainly excited to get out there on the course and play a few great games. I was all dressed up and ready to go, when I discovered something very important; for that golf course, advanced reservations are required. I was rather crestfallen, since that was the whole reason I made the whole trip happen. I decided not to let some bad luck keep me down. I was still going to enjoy my time there.

I decided to spend a night on the town and peruse through the local shops and restaurants. I quickly discovered that the resort and golf course are the only nice things about that particular island. During a short walk through the main street of the local town, I was accosted by at least seven hobos begging for money. I was then spotted by several drunken locals coming out of a bar. They began to jeer at me, so I fled in hopes that my life would be spared.

If one thing can be learned from my experience, it is that you should always plan trips in advanced so that you don’t miss a very important detail.
